I Got Bridged

Kenneth Hale

This Sunday, (09/26) after the 8:00 Services at St John's, I will be heading over to Four Tree Island to partake in the first annual 'I Got Bridged' Walkaton.

Like most 'a-tons' this is a benefit for folks in need, specifically to fund a12-passenger bus to provide Sea last residents access to local Food Pantries.  So why am I using this forum to champion a fundraiser?  Freddy Petrone the founder and my new friend has impressed me incredibly.  His story in his words can be found at igotbridged.com .

This man has encountered more adversity than most of us but has risen above his situation to the extent that he is now assisting others in his former place in life.  I Got Bridged is Freddy's  metaphor for the unexpected obstacles life throws at us.  Who hasn't encountered the Memorial Bridge when it lifts for passing boats?  Often at the most inopportune moments of our schedules?  "When you get bridged, there isn't a whole lot you can do in the situation"  Freddy goes on to say, "getting bridged is an opportunity to pause".

As Christians, do we do this in daily life?  I can only speak for myself.  With examples like this around me, perhaps I can do better at pausing.  I have a lot to appreciate in my life, but moments to enjoy my good fortune don't happen often enough. That’s why I am posting this reflection.  May you all take an opportunity to pause.

Finally, if you have some time on Sunday between 10 and 2pm, stop by Four Tree Island.  In addition to the walk, festivities include live music, food, raffles, and the opportunity to hear Freddy's amazing journey in getting to the other side of his " Bridge" in life.
