All Shall Be Well
Sally Falck
“All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of thing shall be well.” —Mother Julian of Norwich
As we move through the pandemic, the wisdom of Mother Julian of Norwich is a huge comfort to me. All of life seems to be about waiting and wondering about the unknown...certainly evident for the last 21 months as we’ve waited to see what the pandemic will bring, waiting for it to be over, waiting for life to return to “normal.” But, in fact, while all this waiting is happening life is going on—my husband and I have welcomed our first two grandchildren, we have each had a sibling die, we have confronted harsh realities with a genetic disease appearing from seemingly nowhere in our family and becoming part of our story and will be forever. This is life...this is living and despite the challenging moments we know that we have been fortunate beyond belief and for better or worse, this is our normal now.
The comfort of faith enables us to shoulder the burden of life’s challenges and the connection across the centuries with faithful witnesses lightens one’s burden recognizing our common human experience.
All shall be well...
