Sacred Balance

Fran Meffen

This morning, I started my day with my practice of reading the daily reflection from Father Steven Charleston, author of “The Ladder to Light”, followed by a meditation from InSight Timer.  Both Father Steve’s reflection and the meditation merged to bring about a feeling of lightness which at this time seems like something that we all need amid the tensions, crisises and worries that we each carry through our days.

Father Steve spoke of how to find “sacred balance” as a “spiritual tool”.  He suggests that when we are out of balance to turn to our faith and to readjust the scales before fear rises up.  I have known this fear, especially over the last 18 months when the Spirit finally spoke so loudly that I heard her voice and in the midst of the chaos that was mental, physical and spiritual I began to heal by reclaiming my faith, and filtering out the “noise” so that I could hear her clearly knowing that she is at my side each day and surrounds me with unconditional love.

In my meditation this morning which was aptly titled “Mukti (Letting Go): To Stop Overthinking by Nanak Namm, Nanak uses the visualization of a person, me, carrying a very heavy backpack and climbing a mountain only to realize that the backpack has finally gotten to heavy and I must take it off and rest.  Even as you read those words I hope you can feel yourself lifting off the weight of the musts, the worries, the shoulds and the “what ifs” that we carry with us each day.

These reminders to find balance by walking towards your faith and to lighten our loads and breathe allows us to open our compassionate heart and rest, open to hearing the Spirit in our life.  This has been part of the journey that for me has brought me back to a center where I feel that I can set boundaries, focus on a few things and not the many so that I might breathe and walk to the light each day.

I have included the link to the meditation and encourage you to give yourself the gift of self care for the 10 minutes that it will take to be guided through it.  I have also included Father Steve’s words for this morning and encourage you to join this community which is filled with compassion and love.
