Community Service
Last week , I and twelve students from St. Thomas Aquinas High School (Dover, NH) had a great day of service at St. John's. It is our "Winterterm" week at St. Thomas and our students sign up for an alternative course for the week. There are many cool offerings, but these twelve kids were among the sixty-five who signed up for our "Community Service" course. We divide up the kids over the week and visit a number of different sights who could use our help. Today we spent the day with Gerry Simpkins and Reggie Baird. They kept us busy with a variety of chores related to the exciting construction going on, gave us a tour of the Church, as well as a brief history lesson, and showed us the famous tunnel under the altar, complete with stories of the Underground Railroad. Both Gerry and Reggie were wonderful hosts, each of them sharing with us their wisdom having to do with work, faith, life, and the human and Divine Spirit. We are lucky to have spent time at St. John's, are glad to have helped in some small way, and are very grateful!
