The Rev. Anne Williamson

Child of Light

I first received this blessing when I attended a quiet day a number of years ago and found the copy as I was clearing out some cluttered drawers at home.  I don’t know who wrote it (it has been attributed to different people!) but it is quoted in the book – ‘The Joyful Child’ by Dr. Penny Jenkins, who writes: This blessing embodies the highest purpose parents and teachers can desire – to see children as perfect, unique spiritual beings. This is unconditional love.  To me, this is a blessing for all the children of God – all the beloved – that is you, that is me, that is us – us at church – us at home – us out there beyond St. John’s.  It is a blessing of hope and vision and freedom for all – may it bless you this day.

Child of Light

Dear One,
I think of you.
I pray for you.
Not in terms of what I think you need or
what I think you should do or be or express.
I lift up my thoughts about you.

I catch a vision of you.

I see you as a child of light.

I see you guided and directed
by an inward Spirit that leads
you unerringly into the path
that is right for you.

I see you strong and whole;
I see you blessed and prospered;
I see you courageous and confident;
I see you capable and successful.
I see you free from limitation or bondage of any kind.
I see you as the spiritually perfect being you truly are.

Child of Light, I bless you.
