The Rev. Aaron B. Jenkyn

Mark’s Gospel On Stage with Max McLean

This week marks the end of the lectionary year with Christ the King Sunday, closing out Year A and the Gospel of Matthew, and making our way towards Year B in which our Sunday readings will come from the Gospel of Mark. Most scholars believe the Gospel according to Mark was the first Gospel to have been written. Some date it as early as C.E. 55, within twenty five years of Jesus’s ministry. Mark acted as Peter’s assistant and translator, and on many occasions would have heard Peter telling the story of Jesus. Peter’s first-hand accounts of Jesus were likely the source of Mark’s Gospel. It also happens to be the shortest of all the Gospels, and makes for particularly compelling story telling. Max McLean, one of the great biblical storytellers of our time, offers a stunning presentation of the Gospel of Mark on stage. It is 90 minutes long, and a great way to prepare for the coming lectionary season.
