SABBATH WALKS

The Rev. Aaron B. Jenkyn

The whole earth is at rest,  and is quiet:  they break forth into singing. + Isaiah 14:7

The word Lent comes from an old English word for “lengthen” and refers to the lengthening days of spring. During the forty days of Lent, through fasting and reflection, prayer and practice we prepare our hearts for the coming feast of Easter. The word sabbath comes from and old Hebrew word for “to stop” meaning that we take pause from the busyness of our lives to make space for love to grow – we work on our relationships, we delight in nature and beauty, we practice restoration and resurrection.

This Lent, join Pastor Aaron for weekly Sabbath Walks at Creek Farm in Portsmouth, NH.  Each walk will feature simple and accessible practices to help you  enter into a time of sabbath. We will read scripture and poetry from beloved poets such as Wendel Berry and Mary Oliver, there will be a time of quiet contemplation and solitary walking, followed by a time of gathering and reflection.

These walks are meant to be a gift to you, to take the time to set down all that you are carrying to make room for the light to come. Come as you are, everyone, without exception, is welcome.

When: Wednesday Evenings 5:00 – 6:00 pm beginning 2/21/24
