St. John's Under the Stars - All Ages Star-Gazing Event

Thursday, January 23 from 6:30-7:30 PM at Urban Forestry

On Thursday, January 23, from 6:30–7:30 PM, we’ll gather at the Urban Forestry Center for a magical stargazing experience led by Megan and Matt Glenn. (In the event of bad weather, we will reschedule for February). 

The evening will begin indoors with a quick game to get to know one another and an introduction to the night’s activities. Together we'll discover how light affects our ability to see in the dark and create our very own astronomer’s flashlight to guide you through the evening. Together, we’ll explore the changing patterns of the night sky, learn how to use planispheres (star maps), and then head outside to put our knowledge into action. Under the stars, with expert guidance and a star pointer, we’ll identify constellations, locate key stars, and enjoy the wonder of the night sky as a community.

Additional Details:

*Dress warmly! The event includes both indoor and outdoor activities.

*Binoculars are great for star gazing—feel free to bring your own if you have them.

*Flashlights should stay at home, but we’ll provide everything you need to see the stars.

*We’ll have hot cocoa and treats to keep you cozy!

This family-friendly event is designed to be as flexible as you are—stay as long or as little as you’d like. Let’s explore the beauty of the night sky together!
