ACCESSIBILITY AT ST. JOHN’S
LIVING INTO ST. JOHN’S MISSION OF WELCOMING ALL
PHYSICAL ACCESSIBILITY
Spanning the years 2021-2023, following a years-long capital improvement fundraising project, St. John’s saw the construction of Roberts Hall, a new multi-use connector building which bridges the gap between our historic Sanctuary and Thaxter Hall, which houses our large function hall and commercial grade kitchen as well as meeting spaces, choir rehearsal room, and Sunday School classrooms. This beautiful new space serves as a physical representation of St. John’s philosophy that all are welcome here, and brings our spaces into ADA compliance with elevator access and passage from lower Thaxter to upper Thaxter, as well as a wheelchair lift to bring parishioners up to the sanctuary level, inside which are several newly-constructed wheelchair-accessible pew spaces where family members may sit alongside in a shortened traditional pew.
AUDITORY ACCESSIBILITY
Our sanctuary is equipped with a technology called AudioFetch, which broadcasts all spoken and some musical portions of the service, in real time, directly to parishioners over a wireless signal which can be connected to via a smartphone. Once connected to the AudioFetch network, individuals would then be able to hear these primary sound sources through their Bluetooth-enabled hearing devices, wireless earbuds, or wired headphones that are connected to their smartphone.
