Jennifer McPherson Mulhern joined the St. John’s staff in the fall of 2018. Her primary duties include collaborating with the clergy to plan liturgy, directing the Parish Choir, and providing music for services. She holds degrees from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, as well as Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, OH. An international prize winner, Jen has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. A committed teacher of young musicians, she is co-director of The Choir School at St. John’s, a variable-rate after-school music program for children in grades 3-5. She also serves on the faculty and the board of the Young Organist Collaborative, coming full circle after beginning her organ lessons with YOC in 2002.

Jen lives in Portsmouth with her husband, James, and their cat and dog, Johnny and Hugo. When she’s not practicing the organ, she loves a good book, a fun concert, and spending time with her (incredibly large) extended family in Eliot, Maine, particularly during maple sugar season. Ask her about the McPherson family sugar shack!
