Serve

If you are feeling like you don’t know how to serve the World, take a look at the people closest to you and start there. Start with a smile, start with gentleness, start with unconditional love and watch as your immediate world changes for the better.

We are called to serve God and God’s people but sometimes I feel powerless. Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough. Most of the time I feel like I could do more. I want to do more to serve those in need, I want to help those who are hurting, I want to heal injustice, and I want to spread love and tolerance. I want to serve the World, but I am limited because I can’t uproot my conventional family life in service to the World. Sometimes this makes me feel even more powerless because my influence is so limited. At those times, I try to remember the words that have been attributed to Mother Teresa who said, “If you want to change the World, go home and love your family”.

My power may be small on the global stage, but I wield infinite power within my family. The outsized power I have within my family can be used to teach how to love and serve others. I may not be able to change the whole world, but I can certainly show my family unconditional love and encourage them to love others in the same way.

If you are feeling like you don’t know how to serve the World, take a look at the people closest to you and start there. Start with a smile, start with gentleness, start with unconditional love and watch as your immediate world changes for the better. Serve your family in love and watch how your world changes.

Go forth into the world in peace.

(Or stay home, that works too).
Be of good courage.
Hold fast that which is good.
Render to no one evil for evil.
Strengthen the fainthearted.
Support the weak.
Help the afflicted.
Show love to everyone.
Love and serve the Lord,
rejoicing in the power of the Holy Spirit;
and the blessing of almighty God,
the Father, the and Son, and the Holy Spirit,
be among you and remain with you always.

Amen.
