Change
One of the most difficult things a member of St. John’s has had to go through over the years is change. It all started with me some fifty years ago with the new prayer book, then the new hymnal, then female acolytes and shortly after that a new rector which started the transition from the old Anglican way to the Episcopal Church of the 20th century. Then, just as things were getting settled down, we got a female priest, can you imagine, then we got a new bishop, which was really a change. Several other changes happened along the way with the congregation changing when the air base closed, the youth group growing to an unbelievable number, we were growing. We got a new organ, and then another new Bishop. Each change was discussed to the fullest, why do we need change, what was wrong with the old way, but in the long run each change somehow worked out for the better and we grew. We grew to the point that we are able handle today. We are able to handle not being able to go to church, now be able to see your friends, not be able to “Pass the Peace,” not being able to hear the choir, but we will, like we have done for so many years, work our way through this, we will endure the change together, just like we have done for so many years and as long as we do it together we will come out on top. May God bless.
