Thursday in the Third Week of Lent

Peter Tarlton

The Collect of the Day

Keep watch over your Church, O Lord, with your unfailing love; and, since it is grounded in human weakness and cannot maintain itself without your aid, protect it from all danger, and keep it in the way of salvation; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Readings: Jeremiah 7:23–28, Luke 11:14–23 & Psalm 95:6–11

Are we listening?

Noah directed his passenger pairs

To go forth together, two by two

Knowing that they needed

Difference to multiply, by design

As Two by Too accepted

Their unique “w” and “o”,

They shared influence and control

To move forward, as three or four

When either became One sided

Narrowed by education or news,

Job culture or centers of power

Blinded influence separated unity

When Two by Too paused to add

Reflection and curious listening,

Their kinder Souls differed in ways to

Foster collaboration and creativity

Noah knew God’s secret of Creation

Loving others can add safety to difference

One plus a different one makes for stable pairs

And Two plus Too will equal four or more.

I wonder what America will choose?
