Turn
The Rev. Rob Stevens
Repentance or turning is not once for all, but a daily (sometimes moment to moment) practice that encourages us to be aligned with the divine.
TURN
I cannot hear the word Turn and not think of the word Repent. Now, you may just say, “Typical Priest,” but hear me out please. Repent literally means to turn around. And I think repentance is one of the most wonderful aspects of Christianity. We are encouraged to examine our lives on a regular basis and consider our direction and ask, “How’s it working?” And we don’t get one chance at this…we get as many as we need. It is NEVER too late to change direction!
So I offer this exercise of turning or repenting
1. Daydream about what you think God wants for you?
2. Choose one element…just one that you would like to repent…change direction
-relationship
-time use
-habit
3. Choose one element of our communal lives that we need a change in direction
-volunteering
-getting to know someone really different
-praying daily for a world event that troubles you and get involved
Repentance or turning is not once for all, but a daily (sometimes moment to moment) practice that encourages us to be aligned with the divine. My prayer for us all is that we may take courage to truly examine our lives and accept the gift of repentance if it is needed.
