Why Church?

Why Church?
Last Sunday I witnessed grace in action. I watched a devoted woman who has been at St. John’s for most of her life, and a girl, who has just discovered our community, become friends. The older of the two was giving the younger a tour of the sacristy and showing her the different treasures and explaining what the Altar Guild does and how some of the interesting treasures were used. It was lovely to witness and made my heart sing.
This act of grace in action between these two reminded me of one of my answers when people ask me, “Why church?” My answer is, “Where else do we get to develop friendships with someone from another generation?” One of the biggest perks of being the Rector is that I have friends that range in age from 6 months to near 100 years old. I am surrounded by a community that has the wisdom of age and the energy of youth and everything in between. That is but one very good answer to the question, “Why church?”
