SHAKER HARMONY, our culmination project.

The spring season is anchored in preparation for the May 19th concert Shaker Harmony: Celebrating 250 Years of the Shakers in America, an historic concert experience in partnership with composer Kevin Siegfried, and the combined choirs of St. John’s. The Shakers rich musical tradition will be considered and celebrated, and over the course of our semester, students will practice Shaker melodies and harmonies.

Please notice that Saturday, April 13th is a special day for our youth choristers! We will do our normal dress rehearsal in preparation for the service on Sunday morning, but we will expand into the day to bring music to a communal space in Portsmouth. Details will be announced soon. In preparation for this off-campus and community-facing performance, we will be reviving songs from the Choir School ‘songbook,’ like If I had a hammer, and Be more kind… and other songs that fill us with joy. The day will end with a shared lunch.
