Resurrection
On Sunday we heard the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the Gospel of John 11:1-45.
Jesus meets us in the reality of life. He walks with us so God can enter into our lives in a real and powerful way.
We are bound together in our humanity by fear. (Not lovely, but true.) We're pretty scared. It's why we treat each other so poorly. We're afraid of our differences, we're afraid of being left out, we're afraid of not having enough, and yes, we are afraid of dying. And yet Jesus lifts that fear for Lazarus. Jesus lifts that fear for us, too.
That is the promise of resurrection. Resurrection means that the worst thing is never the last thing (Frederick Buechner). Resurrection is when you don't think life can go on, but it does anyway.
Whether it's grief, loss, pain, or suffering Jesus walks with us. What are those times in your life that you have experienced resurrection?
What if, instead of waiting for resurrection to happen to us, we adopted a posture of practicing resurrection? What would that look like?
