Hunt for eggs like you mean it.
Easter Giving Eggs
When: Sunday, April 9
9:15AM Family Easter Service, incl. Youth choir
10:15-11:00AM Children’s Easter Egg Hunt & Giving Celebration
This Easter, let's empower our children to put their 'eggs in the basket' of a cause they care about. Last year, we began a new tradition... an Easter Egg Hunt for children in the church yard that would a) be fun, b) create less waste, and c) allow kids to think about causes they care about and interact with the power of giving.
Each egg hidden in the church yard (reusable wooden eggs - hallelujah) will be assigned a dollar amount and after they are all found, children will return them, assigning them to the cause(s) they care about most. This year, we have two primary causes:
Hunger & Feeding People and
Environment & Creation Care
The evolution from last year's 'Giving Eggs' efforts is evident in the growth of connection with several organizations in our community. We are hosting an educational 'off campus' Sunday morning with Kittery Land Trust on April 30th and look forward to more service opportunities for youth doing woods clean up and garden labor. Additionally, we continue to provide meals for Dover Children's Home and Cross Roads House with our Youth Cooking Ministry and seek out service opportunities with GATHER. When our children & youth programs send the Easter donations to organizations that align with the causes the children have selected we create opportunities for relationships to grow and further impact the lives of our young people and the future of our community.
This is where we enter the story. Consider a community in which we empower our children to use their gifts, talents, and resources to make positive change in the world. Consider a community that says to children, "We see you and we trust you. Here - take this and do something great." I want to build and participate in THAT community. This is one step in that direction, a St. John's Easter tradition: The Giving Eggs.
Please "sponsor an egg" and donate any amount. Our goal is to raise $2,000. (Last year our goal was $500 and we ended up raising $2,000 ~ the idea was met with great enthusiasm and generosity. You really raised the bar! I wonder what this year will bring...)
If donating online isn't your favorite, you can give cash or check via the plate on Sunday or snail mail to the office. Please ensure its marked clearly EASTER EGGS.
100% of donations go directly back to the community, through the loving hands and hearts of our beautiful Easter children.
