unlikely encounters

When Jesus encounters the Samaritan woman, it is an incredibly unlikely conversation because of cultural realities of their time. Yet this unexpected encounter brings such life. She encounters God in Jesus and, I believe, Jesus encounters a woman who challenged him to think differently.
We need more of these unlikely encounters with the risen Christ, of seeing Jesus in the other. The work that we must do, then, is to be aware, to open our eyes and ears so we will be present to these unlikely encounters with God.
