The Rev. anne williamson
resilience and compassion
The Rev. Anne Williamson preaches on the Gospel of Matthew 9:35-10:8(9-23).
Paul is recognizing that life can be difficult, but it's the difficulties that often shape us. He observes that suffering produces endurance (in some biblical versions the translation is not suffering; it's perseverance, or patience), endurance produces character, and character produces hope. The kind of hope which is outside our circumstances and our control.
Suffering is going to find all of us at some point in our lives, but when we or others are suffering we're invited to have an attitude of compassion, such as that which was exemplified by Jesus.
