Taking the Egg Hunt to New Levels
Easter Giving Eggs

Listening for God’s call
I wonder how the young people at St. John’s experience a world that is hurting. How is God stirring in their hearts and calling them to be healers in the world? I wonder what they notice and how they would respond to the call to make a difference right now. How would they choose to give back their community? Can church offer them the opportunity to experience this kind of giving?
Over the next weeks our children will wonder about the ways the world is hurting and how God might be calling us to heal using our own gifts and talents. As we listen for God’s call, we will talk, play, write, and create art to help us express ourselves and our ideas!
In 2022, new meaning was born out of an old tradition... an Easter Egg Hunt for children in the church yard that would a) be fun, b) create less waste, and c) allow kids to think about causes they care about and interact with the power of giving. This Easter, Sunday March 31st, children will be invited to hunt for the lovingly decorated wooden eggs once again. After the hunt is over, the Kids’ Giving Celebration will begin. Thanks to enthusiastic support from the St. John’s community, the eggs’ value was over $3000 in 2023. Children are empowered to place their eggs in the basket of the causes that call to them. Last year, these baskets were for Environment & Creation Care, Hunger & Feeding People, and Global Humanitarian Aid specific to the crisis in the Ukraine. In turn, I allocated the money to related causes. Last year we supported Gather Food Pantry, the Episcopal Relief Fund, and Kittery Land Trust. The hope is to continue the children’s understanding and education through partnership opportunties with local organizations.
We're asking families and community members to SPONSOR AN EGG! Any donation you make will increase the value of the Easter eggs. One hundred percent of gifts received will be given to the selected organizations for 2024, which will be identified in the Easter season.
We are excited to introduce a Poster Art Gallery and Egg-xhibit this April 24 created by the Children and Youth of St. John’s! This will be a moment for the whole community to consider the world through their eyes and support their budding activism.
My prayer is that families and all community members feel invited into something meaningful yet simple, and children feel cherished and powerful. Donate to sponsor the Easter Giving Eggs – help us make this a special giving celebration and a lasting Easter tradition with the young people of our church! You may donate in-person by check or cash (just make sure its marked for Easter Eggs) or by clicking the link: https://onrealm.org/StJohnsEpiscopalNH/give/EasterEgg
