Why St. John's Should Be More Accessible
I know first-hand about the importance of buildings being accessible. My uncle has been in a wheelchair since 2018. In 2021, he came to spend Christmas with us. Unfortunately, he couldn’t join us for Christmas Eve Mass because St. John’s accessibility improvements hadn’t been started. There was no way for a wheelchair to get in. My Uncle’s faith is very important to him and while he understood because it is common for historic churches to not be available for those in wheelchairs; I was disappointed he couldn’t go. I wanted to share the unique magic and love of the St. John’s Christmas Eve service with him.
There have been a lot of improvements across St. John’s and Thaxter Hall since then but there is still more work to be done. I pray that one day my uncle will be able to attend a service with me. Please donate to help my dream come true.
