The Rev. ROBERT E. STEVENS, JR.
"Where are you from?"
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus reminds that the Kingdom of God is not merely a place, but it is LOVE. That when we celebrate the life of someone recently deceased, we are reminded that in Jesus we are from love, and one day we will return to love. When we look around us in our society, we encounter violence in so many forms. There is violence in the ways we speak with one another, even in the ways we speak to and about ourselves. We do ourselves an enormous disservice, and even go so far as to cause ourselves harm when we ignore that through our faith we practice the belief that we are from LOVE.
As many of us prepare to gather with friends and loved ones this week, I offer to you this simple prayer: God, help me to be nonviolent. Help me to remember that I am from LOVE.
The Rev. Robert E. Stevens, Jr. preaches on Sunday, November 24, 2024.
